Marcel Marceau, who revived the art of mime and brought poetry to silence, has died, his former assistant said Sunday. He was 84.

    Marceau was one of the most influential performers of the last century. Among those who followed his lead were Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke, Cantinflas, and scores of others. His understanding of the human condition and his concern for others will be sorely missed.
